Kaupang Ax - silver pendant
Norway
The original ax was cast in lead. It is a miniature of a common war ax from the Viking age. Finding such miniature axes is rare, and only a few have been found in Viking Age graves. Amulets shaped as miniature objects were used for their magic powers. It is possible that the miniature ax was such an amulet, but it could also have been used as jewelry.
Cast on both sides directly from the original piece from the Viking Age. Includes leather cord as shown.
Measures 5/8” wide by 3/4” tall
